Redbridge Council now charging for invalid planning applications

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn

Redbridge Council have now started charging between £60-£120 for invalid applications. They are the first borough in London to adopt this strategy.  In 2019 Redbridge Planning Service introduced an administration charge relating to invalid applications. The aim of this charge was to encourage a positive change in behaviour to reduce the high rate of invalid applications submitted to Redbridge.

The council commented "Invalidating an application incurs additional time and financial resources from the Council Planning Service (which is also a cost to the tax payer) – unfortunately this demand is not sustainable given the current financial and capacity pressures on local authority resources. Invalidating an application also slows down the application process, and results in longer waiting times for us to validate new applications. By reducing the number of invalid applications we can streamline the application process, and we will be able to provide you and your clients a faster service".

The administration charge was adopted by the Council’s Cabinet in 2019, and is considered part of the validation requirements.
Prior approval applications are exempt from this charge.

4D Planning can reduce the chances of an application returning as non valid, which will make the process quicker and cheaper for our clients.
